MIKE
McCARTHY, CPA/JD
MY STORY
I’m a finance guy by education and background. However, over the years I’ve also found myself being drawn to the organizational challenges of growing a business. Failure to get this stuff right involves real anguish for human beings, including the entrepreneurs and the people on their teams who come to see work as drudgery. The peace of mind that comes from tackling growing pains ripples down to everyone in those organizations...and that’s a nice way to put a little dent in the universe.
Over the course of my career, I have:
-
Quarterbacked the sale of a $50M specialty contractor to a private equity firm
-
Participated in the small IPO of a financial services company that I helped grow from $90M to $650M in assets
-
Built out the back office and helped scale a business services firm that was sold for more than $100M
-
Procured the financing for a rental-purchase chain that I helped ramp from 13 to 45 stores
-
Worked with private equity-owned companies for a decade
In addition to being a CPA, I’m also a licensed attorney (member of the Georgia and Florida Bar Associations). My legal background has proven to be quite helpful regarding general business matters, contract review and negotiation, litigation management, M&A transactions, regulatory issues, and HR oversight.
Outside of work I enjoy being outdoors and staying active. I regularly swim, run, and hike. Born and raised on the frozen tundra of Wisconsin, I’m a diehard Green Bay Packers fan. I have an MBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin, a JD from Marquette University Law School, and was a participant in the Master of Taxation program at Georgia State.
